Meet The Team at Hillary Podiatry
Jugat Kaur
Jugat is a Senior Podiatrist at Hillarys Podiatry. Jugat completed her Podiatry Medicine degree in 2014, from the University of Western Australia. Since then, she has been working in private practice, with a decade of experience now in treating the lower limb.
Jugat really is your ‘local Podiatrist’, she loves treating all aspects of the lower limb and wants to ensure she fixes your feet with the most up to date treatments and methods. You can see Jugat for anything from Routine Nail and Skin care, to Diabetes management of the feet and lower limbs, to serious sporting injuries and biomechanics analysis, to prescription of orthotics to ensure correct foot function.
Jugat has been lucky enough to attend trainings and further education in some of the following Podiatric disciplines through courses:
- Mobilisation Techniques – 2016
- Dry Needling and Western Medical Acupuncture – 2017
- Advanced Orthotic therapy – 2017
Further to these advanced courses, Jugat also continues to gain further knowledge skills in the following treatment modalities of Podiatric practice, through on going attendance at continuing education events. Some of the trainings include: Dermatology of the feet and nails, Custom Orthotic therapy, Trigger point Dry Needling, Barefoot Rehabilitation and Exercise prescription, Diabetes and the Feet, Shockwave therapy, Swift Therapy (for warts) and Footwear prescription. Jugat continues to maintain further education in all areas of Podiatry, to ensure she is providing you with gold standard treatments in Podiatric care.
Although Jugat loves treating all aspects of Podiatry, her special interest lies in the correction of Biomechanical instabilities through the use of Orthotic Therapy and Footwear prescription. From chronic injuries that just don’t want to get better, to rehabilitation after acute injury that has impeded your daily or sporting activities, Jugat loves to help you and your feet work at their functional best and uses the most up to date prescription methods to make sure that your orthotics are comfortable and fit into the shoes that YOU like to wear, as well as those that are correct for your feet.
In her spare time, Jugat enjoys living an active lifestyle with training regimes that include HIIT, Running and has also been taking part in Bhangra (a North Indian dance form) competitions in Australia with her Bhangra team. This leads to her understanding and keenness to help those with chronic injuries from sport and from dance in particular, as she has also suffered many injuries throughout her dancing life. Jugat also loves volunteering in the community, having been an active member of the Sikh Community, aiding in the development of programs for Youth in the Sikh Community within WA.
Jugat’s recent adventure has been that of recently becoming a Mum, to her beautiful baby daughter and is now returning to the clinic after 9 months away. She is looking forward to seeing you, to help you look after feet and lower limb concerns!
Dr Shane Toohey
Podiatrist/Acupuncturist
My focus for over 20 years has been in the treatment of lower limb sporting injuries and chronic pain. There have been incredible breakthroughs recently that make my work so exciting. I look for partnerships with clients about working together to the next level for them.
These days I do not provide routine foot care like the management of skin and nail conditions. Nor do I accept EPC referrals.
I provide advanced orthotic therapy, using the only foot scanning equipment in Australia able to accurately capture the individual foot shape suitable for digital modelling for 3D printing and/or milling softer devices.
I train with eminent doctors from the US on breakthroughs in practical dry needling, particularly with those with elite sporting affiliations. These same techniques are what works best for chronic pain conditions. I share my skills providing training for podiatrists. I have taught within podiatry in Australia, UK, Ireland regularly and elsewhere in Europe and Asia. This included 18 years lecturing part-time at Curtin University and 8 years at UWA and numerous conference presentations. I am Managing Director of Artisan Orthotic Laboratory.
I was team podiatrist for Perth Glory for 5 years and always had affiliations with sporting teams and provided voluntary treatment for underage and community AFL teams for over 20 years. I’ve also worked with sundry athletes, including track up to international level.
I’m happy to discuss your lower limb problems and see if we can work together for your personal breakthroughs.
Grace Hughes
Podiatrist
Grace Hughes decided to choose a career in the health care sector that would allow her to help people. The opportunity to help people improve their foot health and ultimately their quality of life is what excited Grace to a career in Podiatry. The Podiatry profession has evolved greatly over the years and with these changes has expended the Podiatrists scope to help with lower limb diseases and disorders.
Grace graduated in a Bachelor of Science, Podiatry from the Galway University, Ireland.
In conjunction with obtaining her undergraduate degree she has also completed additional courses to help treat and manage foot pathologies including a dry needling certificate. She is trained in the use of shockwave treatment (evidence-based treatment commonly used for chronic tendinopathies such as Plantar fasciitis) and SWIFT wart treatment (a new technology developed for the treatment of stubborn warts). Grace has also completed training in ankle mobilisations utilising such manual therapy techniques to help modulate pain and treat joint dysfunctions that can limit joint range of movement.
Grace has been working as a Podiatrist for eight years. During this time, she has worked in Podiatry sectors such as public health. Public health work provided Grace a greater insight into the management and prevention of foot complications such as diabetic foot ulcerations and amputee prevention in the presence of Diabetes. Grace has worked in regional Queensland within the residential aged care sector and private practice in Ireland and Australia. The broad mix of working environments have been fantastic working opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in a variety of Podiatry sectors.
Additional treatments that Garce is trained to provide include:
All aspects of routine general nail care (ingrowing, fungal nails) skin care, skin concerns (hard calluses, corn management).
Nail surgery for the permanent treatment of painful, chronic in growing toenails.
Foot pain and injuries – tendinopathies, ankle sprains, chronic heel pain.
Children’s foot problems – sporting injuries, flat feet.
Keryflex nail restoration treatment – for the cosmetic management of damaged and diseased toenails. This innovative technique uses an ultra-violet light to cure the composite resin to create a durable and flexible, artificial nail. Immediately, improving the appearance of damaged nails.
In her spare time Grace enjoys catching up with friends or going to the beach. Occasionally, you might find Grace reading a good book or out for a coastal bike ride.
